HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON REASONS PATIENTS ARE REFERRED:
General Gynaecology
General gynaecology encompasses the medical specialty focused on the overall reproductive health of women, addressing a broad range of issues such as menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, and routine screenings for conditions like cervical cancer.
Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic bladder condition marked by persistent pelvic pain, urinary urgency, and frequency. The exact cause of IC is not well-defined, making diagnosis challenging, and the symptoms can vary in intensity. This condition predominantly affects women.
Chronic Cystitis
Chronic cystitis refers to the persistent inflammation of the bladder, often leading to recurrent urinary tract infections. This condition can cause symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and discomfort during urination.
Bladder Pain
Bladder pain is a discomfort or aching sensation localized in the lower abdominal area, often associated with the bladder. It can result from various conditions such as urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, or bladder inflammation.
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is a common condition characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine, impacting individuals of all ages. It can be caused by factors such as weakened pelvic floor muscles, nerve damage, or underlying medical conditions.
Uterovaginal Prolapse
Uterovaginal prolapse occurs when the structures supporting the uterus and vagina weaken, causing them to descend into the vaginal canal or protrude outside the body. This condition is often linked to factors such as childbirth, aging, or weakened pelvic floor muscles.
Intractable Bladder Problems
Intractable bladder problems refer to persistent and challenging issues related to the bladder that are resistant to conventional treatments. These problems may include severe urinary incontinence, recurrent infections, or chronic pain.
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections
Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) involve repeated instances of bacterial infections in the urinary system. Typically affecting the bladder but potentially extending to the kidneys, recurrent UTIs can cause symptoms such as frequent and painful urination.
Vaginal and Pelvic Floor Trauma Following Childbirth
Vaginal and pelvic floor trauma following childbirth can occur due to the stretching and pressure placed on these structures during delivery. This trauma may result in symptoms such as perineal tears, pelvic organ prolapse, or urinary incontinence.
Cervical Cerclage in Women with recurrent Miscarriages
Cervical cerclage is a medical procedure that involves stitching the cervix closed to provide additional support during pregnancy, particularly for women with a history of recurrent miscarriages due to cervical insufficiency.
Reconstructive Pelvic and Vaginal Surgery
Reconstructive pelvic and vaginal surgery is a medical intervention aimed at addressing structural or functional issues within the pelvic and vaginal area. This type of surgery is often performed to correct conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse, where pelvic organs like the bladder, uterus, or rectum may descend due to weakened support tissues.
Sacralneuromodulation
Sacral neuromodulation is a procedure used to treat men and women with chronic urinary retention, as well as symptoms of overactive bladder (a frequent and urgent need to pass urine, with associated leakage of urine). It can also be used to treat fecal (bowel) incontinence. Research studies have shown cure or improvement in symptoms in up to 80% of patients. Sacral neuromodulation involves the implantation of neurostimulator (pacemaker) and lead to electrically stimulate the sacral nerve. This is thought to normalise neural communication between the bladder and brain and between the bowel and brain.
